All India Coordinated Research Project on Agrometeorology (AICRPAM)

  • To study the agricultural climate in relation to crop planning and assessment of crop production potentials in different agroclimatic regions
  • To establish crop-weather relationships for all the major rainfed and irrigated crops in different agroclimatic regions
  • To evaluate the different techniques of modification of crop micro-climate for To forecast suitable planting dates using decision support system simulated models.
  • To study the influence of weather on the incidence and spread of pests and diseases of field crops.
  • Improving the water use efficiency and productivity of the crops

Integrated Agromet Advisory Service Project (MRWF)

Presently Jabalpur centre is issuing agro advisories bulletin to the farmers of 14 districts (Rewa, Satna, Panna, Seoni, Sidhi, Katni, Balaghat, Mandla, Dindori, Shahdol, Umaria, Singrouli, and Annuppur including Jabalpur) of Kymore Plateau and Satpura Hills Agro climatic zone of Madhya Pradesh. The objectives are:

  • To provide weather forecast based agro-advisories on every Tuesday and Friday to the farmers of the region, agricultural scientist and extension workers for better farm management.
  • To validate the weather forecast received from India Meteorological Department, Met Centre- Bhopal
  • To take feed back from users of agro-advisory and analysis of data for suitable remedial measures.

Application of Extended Range Weather Forecast for Minimizing Climatic Risk in Rainfed Agriculture (ERFS)

The major objectives include:

  • To collect necessary data and information to support risk management research in the demonstrated districts.
  • To assess the nature of climate related problems, seasonal calendar, crop and cropping pattern, and insect pests.
  • To asses crop management options in response to extended range/ seasonal climate forecast by utilizing crop simulation models.
  • To develop and evaluate options for effective dissemination and adoption of climate forecast and agro-advisories.

AICRPAM-National Initiative for Climate Resilient Agriculture (AICRPAM-NICRA)

The major objective include

  • To provide weather based agro-advisories to the farmers.
  • To demonstrate site specific technology in relation to current weather conditions.
  • To suggest suitable agricultural operations according to weather forecast from time to time.

Forecasting Agricultural output using Space, Agrometeorological and Land based observations (FASAL):

The objective of the project is to estimate crop area and forecast of production of rice and wheat crops through agrometeorological models of 14 districts of Kymore plateau and Satpura hills agro climatic zone. The forecast is issued at flowering (F2) and pre-harvest (F3) stages of rice and wheat crops.

Extension events of the department

The extension work of this department include farmers awareness programme to be conducted in every district of eastern Madhya Pradesh. The objective is to disseminate information about the effect of climate change on crops, and cropping systems, and management practices to be adopted for its mitigation. Certain lectures were given by the professionals regarding the impact of climate change on the crop productivity, insect, and disease infestation of different crops with special reference to rainfall. The importance of agro-advisory based services were also mentioned in these programmes. Survey was also conducted during these programmes in whom certain questions regarding climate change were asked from the farmers. Two examples of the survey is presented of Narsinghpur and Chhattarpur districts. Beside this, a training was given to agricultural officers regarding the working of equipments used to measure weather parameters.
